Consider

consider - when sex hurts there is hopeThis month marks one year since the start of this blog. Even though it was just an introductory post, it signified the beginning of a vision. And so I couldn’t let this month pass without taking a moment to consider—to consider all that has been accomplished, all that has been shared, and all that is still to come.

An entire website exists—full of lessons learned and messages of hope—that did not exist just over a year ago. And when I consider that, I am amazed—amazed at what is possible. If I can recover from a divorce, deal with chronic pain, work a full-time job, live a full life, and still find time to create a blog, what else can I accomplish? And what can you accomplish? I would venture to say that you can accomplish a lot more than you think or even allow yourself to dream.

And when I consider this blog I can’t help but also consider all God has done in my life. One day I will share the story of how I came to have this vision for a website that would help spread hope and healing to others suffering from painful sex. For now I will just tell you that God is transforming my life. Which brings me to my current memory verse, “…Stand still and consider the wondrous works of God” (Job 37:14, NKJV).*

I get so busy, just running from one thing to the next, that I need to be reminded to take time and stand still. I need to stop and consider the amazing works of God—in my own life and in the world around me. And I would encourage you to do the same. Consider your own life and those dreams that lie under the surface. Consider your own evidence of God’s wondrous works. I realize that your story may be very different from mine, and you may still be in the dark places of suffering. But there are still wonderful things around you. Consider the beauty of nature, the love of a friend, the spark of hope. Stand still and consider all of the wondrous works that God has in store for you.  And never forget that when sex hurts there is hope!

*Yes, that may sound Sunday school-ish, but I do try to memorize Bible verses that speak truth into my life.  You never know when you’re going to face a difficult situation and having a truth in your memory that you can remind yourself of can be a lifesaver (I know from personal experience). You don’t even need to memorize word for word or exactly what chapter and verse number, just remember the truth—remember the promise that God gave you. (And if you need any suggestions on worthwhile memory verses, just let me know!)
